The three-door Jimny at R499,900 is the entry point to one of the most devoted ownership communities in South Africa. Its 75kW naturally aspirated engine climbs mountains that defeat much larger vehicles through mechanical grip, low gearing and exceptional approach and departure angles. What it can''t do is carry passengers comfortably or cruise at 140km/h.
The verdict
The Jimny remains the best off-road performer per-rand in South Africa. If you need rear seats, buy the five-door. If you live alone and want the most capable off-roader under R500,000, the three-door Jimny is your answer.
