The latest D-Max does not chase drama. It quietly improves the bits that matter to owners.

What we liked
- Improved refinement
- Confidence under load
- Honest ergonomic layout
What we didn't
- Cabin design is conservative
- Not the quickest in class
Isuzu's update is more significant than the visuals suggest lands at the centre of the South African market conversation for one reason: context matters as much as raw specification. We tested, compared and interviewed around the subject to understand how it fits local roads, local buyers and local operating costs.
Noise suppression is improved, steering is more settled on-centre and the suspension carries load with less fuss over patchwork roads. It still feels engineered for work first, but that no longer means obviously compromised comfort.
That matters because South African buyers rarely shop in isolation. Fuel spend, tyre replacement, dealer support, insurance appetite and resale confidence all shape the final verdict far more than a brochure headline does.
As a first drive, it points to a bakkie that understands exactly what its buyer expects and wastes no effort pretending to be something else.
The verdict
Measured, durable and more polished than the old D-Max formula.
