Ford South Africa has announced that the Ranger achieved record monthly sales of 5,247 units, eclipsing the previous record of 4,923 units set just three months prior. This makes the Ranger not only South Africa's best-selling vehicle but the fastest-selling bakkie in the brand's global history. The Silverton manufacturing plant outside Pretoria is running at full capacity, producing Ranger units for both local sale and export to over 148 countries. Ford has invested R15.8 billion in the Silverton plant over the past two years to support next-generation Ranger production. "South Africa remains one of Ford's most strategically important global markets," said Neale Hill, Managing Director of Ford Motor Company Sub-Saharan Africa. "The Ranger's dominance in this market is a testament to the product quality of our Silverton team." The Ranger's success is built on a combination of factors: a broad lineup spanning from the R489,900 entry XL through to the R999,900 Raptor, strong fleet sales to mining and government operators, and an improved interior that has addressed the historical gap with the Toyota Hilux. Naamsa data shows that bakkies now account for 27.4% of all new vehicle sales in South Africa — an increase of 4.2% over the same period last year, driven largely by bakkie buyers choosing their vehicles as primary transport rather than commercial tools.
